Throughout the year, ASCA’s five Sister Cities propose a series of cultural and student exchange programs.
ASCA participates in a national program run by the American Cultural Exchange Service, a nonprofit organization contracted by the U.S. Department of State to promote global understanding through international educational exchange experiences.
Educational Programs
ASCA hosts educational webinars, seminars, lectures, and book talks in Arlington and/or internationally via the web. Arlington commemorates with its Sister Cities significant historical or cultural events. Youth Exchanges

Arts & Cultural Partnerships
ASCA works with arts and cultural organizations to create and expand performing and visual artist exchanges, shared exhibitions, cultural linkages, and educational opportunities. (Past events-WWI and WWII events in Arlington and Sister Cities, Sister City Adult Art Exchange, Choral and Orchestra concerts)
Government and Professional Exchanges
Official invitations to visit Sister Cities, promote government exchanges and discuss best practices. (Past Events- Exchanges on Transportation and Infrastructure, County Governance, Firefighter Exchange, Teacher Exchange)
Economic Development
Business and corporate involvement is fundamental to ASCA’s programming. ASCA promotes and facilitates open dialogue between Arlington business professionals and their counterparts in our Sister Cities through organizations such as Arlington Economic Development and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
Global Tourism
ASCA collaborates with our Sister Cities and community organizations to increase joint tourism opportunities, exploring the idea that we live in a global environment. ASCA invites and hosts government representatives, foreign dignitaries, and residents of our Sister Cities to come and enjoy Arlington County, the District of Columbia-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) region, and the United States.
